Turning Concepts, Content and Skills into an Effective Teaching Programme: A Hands-On Guide to Curriculum Design

This workshop will take participants through the key steps of designing a teaching programme or syllabus. This will include establishing desired outcomes and objectives, identify the entry point baseline, resource parameters, extent and depth teacher expertise, belief and capacity, and assessment and pedagogical strategies. The evaluation component of the workshop will focus: on establishing evaluation objectives; obtaining valid data and information; designing and implementing appropriate evaluation instruments; analysing data and drawing findings. Participants will design micro-programmes during the workshop to apply the concepts covered.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Master the core components of designing a teaching programme, from setting objectives to understanding resource constraints and pedagogical strategies.
  • Gain proficiency in establishing evaluation criteria, collecting valid data, and utilizing appropriate evaluation instruments.
  • Create effective micro-programmes, leveraging workshop concepts and ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives.

About the Presenter: 

Mr Simon Reynolds

Mr Simon Reynolds is a senior education consultant at Principals Academy with expertise in curriculum  development and implementation, pedagogy and assessment and special education. He was a deputy director at the Curriculum Planning and Development Division of the  Ministry of Education for 11 years working on curriculum development and effective curriculum implementation through appropriate pedagogy and assessment. Currently, he consults on curriculum design, assessment, and evaluation for Special Education Schools, conducts teacher and parent training for mainstream schools  and is as a part-time lecturer and practicum supervisor at the National Institute of Education. He also works on behavioural management  and intervention. When time permits, he occasionally returns to the classroom as a relief teacher to keep connected to classroom realities. Mr Reynolds holds Masters Degrees in English Studies and Autism Studies and A Graduate Certificate in Behavioral Analysis.
