Adaptive Expertise in Educational Leadership

The workshop explores the concept of complexity in education and the need for adaptive expertise to effectively address it. The characteristics of adaptive expertise will be unpacked, including the ability to apply deep educational knowledge flexibly and responsively, make context-appropriate choices based on evidence of student learning, and deliberately address inequity to make a difference for each student.

Through interactive activities and case studies, participants will develop strategies for cultivating adaptive expertise in themselves and their teams. This includes building in-depth educational knowledge, fostering flexibility and responsiveness, and tools to support the adoption of an adaptive mindset.

Core outcomes:

  • Understand the concept of adaptive expertise and its importance in addressing complexity and improving student outcomes
  • Develop strategies for cultivating adaptive expertise in leadership practice
  • Apply adaptive expertise to real-world leadership challenges and scenarios
  • Create an action plan for implementing and sustaining adaptive expertise in their educational setting
