Using the Competency Development Growth Model More Effectively

Professional growth conversations are a key part of leadership work in schools. They shape how teachers reflect on practice, make sense of feedback, and identify meaningful next steps in their development. For School Leaders and Middle Managers, leading these conversations well requires more than procedural familiarity. It requires a clear understanding of how the Competency Development Growth Model can be used to interpret practice, guide professional dialogue, and support staff growth in a way that is fair, focused, and credible.

This one-day workshop helps participants develop a stronger grasp of how to use the model in practical school contexts, while also introducing coaching as an important leadership approach in teacher development. Through case examples, structured discussion, and applied activities, participants will learn how to interpret competency language more carefully, identify suitable evidence, structure purposeful growth conversations, and use coaching techniques to support teacher reflection. The workshop also helps participants become more at ease in developmental conversations so that they can support staff growth with greater clarity, consistency, and professionalism.
