Artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving beyond text generation to include voice interaction, multimodal analysis, deep research, autonomous agents, media creation and vibe coding. This workshop provides an accessible but substantial exploration of these capabilities and examines what they may mean for the future of teaching and learning.
The central framework is the distinction between using AI as a cognitive prosthetic, replacing thinking that learners need to develop, and as cognitive extension, enabling students to investigate more deeply, create more ambitiously and address challenges previously beyond their reach. Participants will continually evaluate where AI adds educational value, where it weakens learning and what evidence of student thinking should remain visible.
Objectives and Contents
Practical Learning Experience
The workshop will combine concise presentations, live demonstrations, guided experimentation and collaborative design. Participants will interact with selected state-of-the-art tools; evaluate examples of AI-supported learning; compare activities that extend or replace student thinking; and examine how evidence of reasoning, decision-making and authorship can be preserved.
During an extended design studio, participants will select a conventional K-12 activity and reconstruct it for an AI-rich environment. They will define the learning that must remain human, determine an appropriate role for AI, build or adapt the resources, test the experience from a learner's perspective and apply a responsible-use review before presenting the redesigned activity.
Singapore Context and Learning Outcomes
The workshop will connect with the EdTech Masterplan 2030, AI-enabled developments within the Student Learning Space and Singapore's commitment to technologically confident, creative and responsible learners. Ethical discussions will also consider the Personal Data Protection Act and local guidance concerning children's personal data.
All demonstrations, resources, activities, collaborative spaces and reflection tools will be available through a dedicated ad hoc workshop website. Participants will leave with a future-oriented analytical framework, a redesigned learning activity and practical principles for responsible AI integration.
