Introduction to Positive Psychology Coaching in Education

Positive Psychology Coaching combines the best of the science of well-being with the power of coaching techniques, to enable educators & youth workers to effectively support students/youth overcome their challenges and achieve greater well-being.

Join us in this workshop, where we will introduce Positive Psychology Coaching in Education, specifically in the context of student development, as well as social and emotional learning (SEL). These skills are also applicable for Middle Management as it can be used in their interaction with their staff.

Through this interactive session, participants will learn the following:

  • Appreciate the principles of positive psychology coaching and how they can be applied in SEL and student development
  • Apply active listening skills, to better understand both the emotional and substantive content of their students' words.
  • Apply coaching techniques of asking powerful questions to reveal students' underlying beliefs and narratives, and help them develop new awareness.
  • Apply tools to help students develop new healthier mindsets that promote better behaviour, and drive more effective results in their lives.

About the Presenter: 

Ms Claire Ong

Claire is The Positive Movement's co-founder, lead trainer and coach. She specializes in designing and delivering programs in Positive Psychology, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and Coaching.

Claire holds a Masters of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), where she studied under the founding Professor of the field, Dr Martin Seligman, and other leading Professors including Angela Duckworth and Adam Grant.

She is an associate faculty at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) where she teaches Social-Emotional Learning and Positive Psychology in Coaching. Claire is a certified ontological coach with Newfield Network.

Claire has led training programs for both schools and corporates across Asia Pacific. Her previous clients include Hwa Chong Institution, Singhealth, National Healthcare Group and Novartis. She has also worked with the Family Justice Courts and Singapore Prison Service to embed Positive Psychology in public services.
